FlyGREEN Carbon Offset Program

Hume Travel Corporation has partnered with Offsetters Climate Neutral Society, a not-for-profit organization established by a team of climate change experts at the University of British Columbia.

Air travel currently accounts for about 3% of global carbon dioxide emissions and is increasing every year. While the per kilometer emissions (per traveler) of a jet plane are not dramatically higher than those of a car, a single cross-continent trip is almost half of the distance that the average car travels in a year. It allows a global lifestyle, but has a global impact as well.

How much does the FlyGREEN Offset Program cost?

Less than you think. A return flight between Vancouver and Toronto emits approximately 3/4 tonne of carbon dioxide (equivalent) and costs less than $14. You’ll pay more for your airport lunches!

Where does my money go?

Offsetters invests in high quality carbon offset projects that:

Are "additional" (i.e. Offsetters investments enable greenhouse gas reducing projects that would otherwise not take place);
Meet or exceed Canadian environmental standards;
Are verified by a third party;
Provide lasting environmental benefit (we favour energy efficiency technologies and renewable energy over tree planting); and
Are socially beneficial (Offsetters projects bring social benefits as well as environmental gains).

How do I participate?

1. Join our corporate program. Corporate members of the carbon offset program just ask us to offset 100% of the greenhouse gas emissions from your flights ("climate neutral") or to offset 35% of your emissions ("Kyoto target"). We do the rest. You will receive a monthly statement and invoice from Hume and Offsetters outlining your total emissions and tonnes of emissions credits purchased.
